James D. Church, Jr., 64, of Rome, passed away after a long illness on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Bethany Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility in Rome. Jim was born in Rome NY on July 21, 1954 and was the son of J. Donald and Mary Frances Church, Sr. He was a 1973 graduate of Rome Free Academy.
Jim worked in a few different positions over the years with the most recent being at Met Life in the Claims Department. He was a member of St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s Church.
He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and NASCAR Racing. He loved spending time in the Adirondacks, fishing and enjoyed photography.
He is survived by two sisters, Sharon Richer of Utica and Maureen Reis of Rome; a cousin, Cyndy (Ed) Haley; long time best friend, Paul Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved feline, Toni. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Michael Church.
His family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Joel Amidon and Dr. Emile Wassil for their many years of kindness and care given to Jim. Thank you to the nursing staff at Mohawk Glen Dialysis Center for the excellent care and compassion they gave him.
Special thanks goes to the second floor nursing staff at Bethany Gardens, especially Rose Mary Myers, Tracey Johnson, Patrick Underwood and Tracey Froelich to name a few. You all showed such care and compassion towards Jim and we are so very grateful.
