LETTER: It’s time to try new ideas in battle against crime

Posted

They say STUPID is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

They tried this “commission nonsense” how long ago? It did not work then. What makes them “think” it will now?

We are in the midst of a crime surge not just in New York City but in the entire state. Drugs are rampant. And these political hacks want to close more prisons?  Again, they are doing the same stupid old thing. And it’s not working.

You don’t end crime by wishing it away. When Rudy Giuliani was mayor of NYC, they established a “broke windows” policy. By that, they went out to clean up neighborhoods with the “little problems” and some how the big problems took care of themselves. You know it worked?

Gov. Kathy Hochul is doing the same nonsense that has been tried and has failed miserably. She has become the tail wagging the dog? Our state prisons are led by a man who has never worked a day with inmates and has been an “acting” Commissioner of Corrections for 25 years. He and the Democrats have single-handedly made the state prisons the most violent in the nation. Our correction officers are being assaulted daily. Special housing for inmates committing serious offenses, is a laughing stock.

And yet, they keep doing the same old thing. When will they get the idea to try something “different”?

How true! We banned "assault rifles" for ten years with no discernible affect on crime. Let's try punishing criminals and use our closed prisons for what they were intended.
