ROME — Craobh Dugan O’Looney, the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, will hold a traditional Irish music session from 7-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Copper City Brewery, 1111 Oneida St.

The session is free and open to the public, as well as musicians who are interested in playing Irish Traditional Music and play instruments such as fiddle, whistle, flute, accordion, mandolin and tenor banjo.

Spectators are also encouraged to come listen and enjoy an evening of traditional music.  Sessions have a long history in Irish Traditional Music, going back more than 75 years.   They are usually held in public houses (pubs) and have a format that includes musicians playing sets of standard Irish tunes in the traditional manner. Singers are usually present and songs are generally presented acapella.

Craobh Dugan O’Looney was established in 1978 for the purpose of promotion Irish music, dance and language in the Utica-Rome area.

More information can be found on the group’s website: uticairish.org.
