Insight House, 500 Whitesboro St., Utica, has expanded its community Naloxone training — often referred to by the brand name Narcan — to local businesses and organizations.
Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. The medication is an opioid antagonist — which means that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of an opioid.
It can often quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of a heroin or other opioid overdose.
Insight House offers confidential, one-on-one counseling services for the significant others of individuals struggling with addiction.
Additionally, Insight House will expand its community Naloxone training to local businesses and organizations. Those interested in scheduling a training at their facility should call 315-724-5168, ext. 238.
Free community training sessions will be on-going, and held on the first and last Wednesday of each month.
Space is limited so those interested should call ahead to register.
