The Innovare Advancement Center will host the third annual International Quantum Information Science Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22, 23 and 24.
The virtual three-day event is a global connectivity initiative to build an open ecosystem of government, academic and industry collaborations to shape the future of quantum innovation for the U.S. and its partners.
“This annual workshop continues to reinforce the Air Force and Space Force's commitment to trailblaze fundamental science and technology areas like quantum information science through talent recruitment, scientific investigation, deliberate goal-setting, and resources in partnership with our international community of academic and industry partners,” said Dr. Michael Hayduk, deputy director, Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. “We are also pleased to once again be partnering with our tri-service collaborators from the Army and Navy in this event. Building these types of partnerships are critical as we aim to accelerate the advancement of quantum technology and develop the next generation of scientific talent.”
The workshop will feature discussion panels of discerning student and faculty panelists sharing research and connectivity experiences with the Department of Defense labs, showcase awardees of last year’s Million Dollar International Quantum-U Tech Accelerator grants, and share insights about current and future quantum research activities and opportunities with AFRL, Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Army Research Office (ARO), Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), and the Office of Naval Research (ONR), as well as networking opportunities each day.
“The 3rd annual International Quantum Information Science (QIS) Workshop amalgamates a rich arsenal of expertise from atomic physics, information science, and mathematics to vacuum science, engineering, and laser science,” said Dr. Boyan Tabakov, program officer for Atomic and Molecular Physics at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. “The collaborative event brings together and highlights the wide-range of critical researchers at various career stages, from budding students to pillars of the scientific enterprise, that is undeniably necessary for pushing the frontiers of QIS in the U.S. and internationally.”
Adding additional insight during the event, each day will also feature keynote addresses from leading experts in the field of Quantum Information Science:
Day 1 (June 22) — Dr. William D. Phillips, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Nobel Laureate in Physics in 1997
Day 2 (June 23) — Dr. Tatjana Curcic, Defense Sciences Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
Day 2 (June 24) — Prof. Dana Anderson, Co-Founder of ColdQuanta, Professor of Physics at University of Colorado Boulder
The event is presented by Innovare Advancement Center, a partnership between AFRL/RI, New York State, Oneida County (OC), the City of Rome, the Griffiss Institute (GI), New York State Enterprise Technology Corporation (NYSTEC), and The State University of New York (SUNY).
AFRL is one of Innovare’s key strategic collaborators seeking to achieve the team’s vision: engage partners to initiate entrepreneurial ventures and tech startups in key strategic areas, including artificial intelligence/machine learning, cybersecurity, and quantum, in addition to building a robust talent pipeline at a time when scientific advancement across boundaries is needed now more than ever to remain economically and strategically competitive in this fast-changing world.
