TOWN OF WEBB — A hiker with a leg injury lost in Herkimer County was found safe and sound by rescue personnel Sunday morning.
State police said the hiker’s son called 9-1-1 on Saturday to report that his father had not returned from a hike in a wooded area in the Town of Webb in Herkimer County. State police and state forest rangers responded to the woods and searched through the night, but were unable to locate the man, whose name was not released.
Authorities said K-9s were brought to the search area Sunday morning and the man was found shortly thereafter. Troopers said the hiker had suffered a leg injury and showed symptoms of hypothermia, which had led to him becoming disoriented in the woods and unable to move.
Troopers said the man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
