Information session slated for Clinton/Kirkland Clean Energy Campaign

KIRKLAND — The Clinton/Kirkland Climate Smart Task Force, along with the village of Clinton and the town of Kirkland, will host an information session for the Clinton/Kirkland Clean Energy Campaign. The event will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Kirkland Town Library.

A representative from Heat Smart Mohawk Valley will explain how heat pumps work and what New York state and federal subsidies are available to help cover installation costs. Several area vendors will be present to answer questions about installation, costs, and related information.

The Clean Energy Campaign is aimed at encouraging residents to conduct free energy audits of their homes and consider installing air-source or geothermal heat pumps in place of oil, propane, or natural gas furnaces, according to organizers.

Modern heat pumps provide both heating and cooling more efficiently than fossil-fuel based furnaces and dramatically reduce carbon emissions, the announcement said, adding that new federal subsidies for heat pumps and many other energy-saving investments start in January.

The campaign is co-sponsored by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Central School, Hamilton College, and the Clinton-Kirkland Improvement Corporation.
