ROME — A Rome man and his sister are both facing charges after the Rome Police Department said they caused a scene at the East Dominick Street Sunoco and then fought with responding officers.

Police said Joshua N. Wiley, 21, was destroying property and fighting with employees at the Sunoco convenience store and gas station on East Dominick Street around 1 p.m. Saturday. Police said Wiley had previously been barred from the store. Wiley's sister, Iashia S. Howard, 35, of Rome, was also present, authorities stated.

Wiley and Howard had left the store by the time law enforcement arrived and they were found walking a short distance away. Police said Wiley started arguing with officers when they attempted to speak with him, and he grabbed and slapped an officer by the arm.

The officers attempted to take Wiley into custody, and police said Howard jumped on an officer's back to interfere, causing an injury to the officer's shoulder.

Both Wiley and Howard were taken into custody on one count each of second-degree harassment and second-degree obstruction of a governmental administration, police said. Wiley is additionally charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree mischief and resisting arrest, authorities stated. They are both scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
