ROME — Responding to a need expressed by the Humane Society of Rome, Rome Rotarian Carla Till recently led an effort that resulted in the collection of hundreds of pounds of items for the animal shelter.

Till helped collect old blankets, towels and linens so animals available for adoption at the center could be more comfortable in their cages during the winter, she said.

Rome Humane Society officials said blankets, towels and flat sheets are always in demand for the care of the animals kept for adoption. Dog kennels have blankets to help keep dogs’ paws off the cold floors, while cat cages are lined with small blankets or fleece to give them a cozy place to nest, according to the shelter.

Although the Rotary’s two-month project has ended, the Humane Society of Rome still has a wish list for several items that can be found on the shelter’s website at www.humanesocietyrome.com.

Those items include toys that make noise, small mice, Nylabone dog chew bones, large dog toys and grain-free treats.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter at 6247 Lamphear Road. For more information, contact RHS at 315-336-7070.
