Huckabone has successful weekend at Vernon Downs


VERNON — It was a busy weekend at Vernon Downs, with racing Saturday and Sunday.

Angel Speak, driven by Claude Huckabone III, charged late to capture the featured fillies and mares pace on Saturday.

Hope Hotspur (Ronald Harp) led early but had to settle for second place. Quick Trot (Josh Kinney) also led by finished third.

Angel Speak is owned by the Brian Henkel Stable and trained by Huckabone. The 6-year-old mare by Well Said recorded her second win this season. She now owns 13 career victories.

Huckabone and Howard Parker each had three driving wins on the night.

Huckabone continued his winning ways during Sunday's Mother's Day matinee racing card, driving What's Goin On to victory in the featured pace.

Heaven Rocks (Jimmy Whittemore) settled for second with I Am Golden (Ronald Harp) finishing third.

What's Goin On is a 5-year-old gelding by Roll With Joe. It was his fifth win this season. He now has 15 career victories.

Adam Capizzano, Claude Huckabone Jr. and Roman Lopez all had driving doubles. .

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday. The program will feature the eliminations for the Empire Breeders Classic for both 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings as well as 3-year-old trotting fillies. Post time is 6:10 p.m.
