HP’s Olearczyk wins North Region Sectional boys golf title

CARTHAGE — Holland Patent’s Jacob Olearczyk won the North Region Sectional boys golf title Monday at Carlowden Country Club in Carthage.

Olearczyk fired a seven-over-par 79 to win by five strokes over second place finisher Jayden Romig of Watertown.

South Jefferson was the large school team champion and Alexandria Bay was the small school title winner.

The top 16 finishers advanced to the next round, the sectional tournament. The two-day event at 7 Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton starts Wednesday with day two on Friday.

Joining Olearczyk and Romig in the top 16 were: Blake Turner of South Jefferson, Robert LeFavour of Old Forge and Brian Secor of Remsen tied for third at 85; Liam Hobbs of South Jefferson in sixth at 86; Drew Ferency of Alex Bay and Shea Spencer of South Jefferson tied for seventh at 88; Luke Heller of General Brown and Dalton Myers of Lowville tied for ninth at 89; Jay Countryman of Indian River and Jude Jennings tied for 11th at 90; and Wade Stone of Alex Bay, Chris Nevala of Thousand Islands, Xander Gaige of Watertown and Thomas McCue of Lowville tied for 13th at 91.
