Hospital, North Star Cheerleading take Best in Parade honors

The Rome Area Cahmber of Commerce has announced the winners of the Ronald A. Swinney Best in Parade awards from Saturday’s Honor America Days celebration.

In the business category, Rome Memorial Hospital placed first and Flagstone Real Estate/Hillside Seasonal Services won runner up.

The winning float in the “organization” category was North Star Cheerleading. The city Parks and Recreation Department float came in second place. Additional awards were given as follows:

Most creative use of music or props: CSEA

Most interactive with spectators: Girl Scout Troop 20898

Most inspirational: Rome Historical Society

Best costumed: Immanuel Baptist Church

Best use of theme: AFRL Social Council

Judge’s favorite: Kris-Tech Wire Co.

Committee’s choice: AmeriCU, Rome YMCA, and the Capitol Theatre.

Awards will be officially presented in a ceremony on Friday, Aug. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Bellamy Harbor Park after the grand opening of Canalfest.

The awards will be presented by the Swinney family, Chamber representatives, and Mayor Jacqueline M. Izzo.
