HomeOwnershipCenter to host Empowerment Center grand reopening

UTICA — The HomeOwnershipCenter (HOC) will be hosting a grand opening of their Empowerment Center on June 8 at 230 James St. in Utica. The ribbon cutting will begin at 4 p.m. followed by community events from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The grand reopening will be a free evening of fun, music, chances to win raffles, giveaways, and family friendly activities. The Utica Police Department will be grilling for the community and the Utica Fire Department will have a fire truck on site to demonstrate fire safety and prevention. Tours of the building will be available to see the recently completed renovations.

Chartered in 1979 by NeighborWorks America, the HomeOwnershipCenter promotes housing and community development through programs such as Homebuyer Education and Financial Coaching, housing rehabilitation, and foreclosure prevention. The HOC provides services to residents in Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Fulton, Otsego, and Montgomery counties.

Since the opening of the Empowerment Center six years ago, it has become a hub for community groups and other entities to gather, hold meetings, and provide programming. The HomeOwnershipCenter encourages the community to stop in, and meet their neighbors.
