ONEIDA — The Holy Cross Academy, 4020 Barrington Road, has announced the appointment of four new teachers who will be joining the school’s staff for the 2022-2023 year.

“We are so grateful to have four new teachers join our staff this year, especially two alumni,” said Principal Therese Maciag. “Including those among our returning faculty, we now have four alumni teaching at Holy Cross Academy. We are very proud to have these alumni teachers, as it is a testament to the community that has been built here and the passion for the faith that was instilled in them by their families and carried on by the school.”

The new teachers include:

  • Christina Laucello Hernandez, a 2008 graduate of Holy Cross Academy who taught at the school in 2015, returns this year to teach English following a position in the Chicago School District. Hernandez has a bachelor’s degree from Franciscan University and a master’s degree in writing and publishing from DePaul University.
  • Margaret Cummings, a 2016 graduate of Holy Cross Academy, will teach math and science classes. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Binghamton University and a master’s degree in education from the State University of New York at Oswego.
  • Thomas Bodoh, from Virginia, a recent graduate of Franciscan University with bachelor’s degrees in theater arts (performance) and communication arts (digital broadcast and production), will teach drama and film classes, as well as directing student plays. Holy Cross Academy will see the return of theater productions at the school, which were postponed due to the COVID pandemic.
  • Julie Netzband joins the faculty as a criminal justice teacher. She has served as a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer and school resource officer before retiring at the rank of lieutenant with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

The Holy Cross Academy is a private Catholic school for students in grades 7 through 12. New students are always welcome.

Busing is available from 10 area school districts, as well as some students being transported by their families from outside the local area.
