HOLLAND PATENT — At the annual Flag Day program at Holland Patent Elementary School on June 14 (Flag Day) the Holland Patent Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution were hosted two Scouts from Troop 55.
Caedyn and Colin Rowlands demonstrated “the meaning of the flag draped coffin.”
This was also done at the Flag Retirement Ceremony at the American Legion Post 161 by the Scouts on June 8, after preparing 1,157 flags for retirement. The flag fold helps to understand that each fold, 13 in all, represent the thirteen colonies; the twenty-one gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776. Our founding fathers used God’s word and teachings to establish our great nation, the chapter said in its announcement.
