Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz is inviting the public to a host of upcoming events — from tours of Utica’s Historic Shoe District to the Cottage Lawn Farmers Market.

• Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m., the Marshall Historical Society will host a presentation by Cheryl Pula on the 146th NYSV Infantry of the Civil War at the Deansboro Town Hall. 

Pula, a prominent local author and military historian will talk about the regiment, otherwise known as the Fifth Oneida County Regiment, which was also nicknamed the Halleck Regiment, after Henry Halleck from Westernville. Halleck served as Lincoln’s Chief of Staff during the Civil War. There is no charge for this event. • Friday, July 22 at 1 p.m., the Oneida Community Mansion House will have a two-part tour of the Mansion House and Sherrill Manufacturing’s Liberty Tabletop Factory. The event offers a behind the scenes look how silverware goes from a metal coil to silverware and a tour of the Oneida Community Mansion House. The tour will begin at the Mansion House and participants will be responsible to get to Sherrill Manufacturing after completion of the first tour. Registration is $15 and must be done in advance. • Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m., the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum will host the presentation “Central New York Local History is National History” by Daniel Koch. A native of Oneida, he is an historian, author and vice master at Bedford School, a boarding and day school in England.

Koch is completing a publication on the history of Central New York. $5 admission includes the Hall of Fame Museum, and the program.

On Tuesday, July 26 from 2 to 6 p.m., the Madison County Historical Society will host a weekly farmers market. Discover fresh seasonal produce, local cheeses, honeycomb, artisan breads, pastries, baked goods, maple products, poultry, lamb, eggs, wool and yarn products, jams and jellies, soaps, and much more.
