WEEKLY REFLECTIONS: His resurrection, our destiny

Posted

Luke 24 is about the resurrection of Christ. We are reminded that Christ must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.

This was the ultimate reason why Christ came; to give his life so that you and I could be set free. Christ had and has the power to bring life to us all; to bring breath into these dry bones. To accept this life-changing feat means to accept Him as our savior and bring us to a right relationship with Him.

As he was raised on the third day into new life, we too have a new life. 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, one day we will rise and be with him in glory; a new body, a new life.

Romans 6:4 says, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

This new life is one that we live right here and now. It is the opportunity to hang up the old self and not live in sin but to accept the power of the Holy Spirit living in you.

The Holy Spirit has been given to you to teach you, convict you of sin, to counsel you and to guide you in this life. It is eternal life working in you today.

What is the evidence that his resurrection life is formed and evident in you. Galatians 5:22-25 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

When the Holy Spirit begins his work in us, we can truly see and understand the reality of the risen Christ. I pray that the world is transformed into his likeness, and we see a new spirit rising in His people. I pray that the church steps and stands up to what is evident in so many around us that challenge our rights and forbearance as Christians.

That evidence is spelled out in Galatians 5:17-21 that’s says, “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Perhaps you have been challenged by the worldly people that surround you. Cheer up, look up and live as children of light. Our God is there, always, listening, and desiring you to reach out to him. There is no valley to low or mountain to high that he can’t climb or move. Call on him today and become a child of God. For those that have accepted Christ, you know the challenges before you.

Reach out to others and show God’s love, compassion, mercy and grace to those who don’t have ears to hear, or eyes to see. You can make a difference, one step at a time. His resurrection is our destiny!
