Herman R. Schinn


Herman R. Schinn, 88, of Camden passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his home. Herman was born on September 15, 1930 in Tonawanda, NY, the son of Rudolph and Clara Reich Schinn. Herman grew up in Rome, NY and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1948. Herman was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Following his return from military duty, Herman was able to pursue his life-long passion and interest in tractor trailers by beginning his career as a professional truck driver. From the early 1950’s on, Herman purchased numerous 18 wheelers, driving long and short hauls as an independent owner/operator, traveling across the country. In the 1980’s Herman started his own company, Schinn Transport, and expanded his fleet of trucks and business. Herman never fully retired, and enjoyed keeping a hand in the day-to-day business operations remaining active in Schinn Transport until recently. Herman was a member of the Camden VFW and Camden American Legion. He was a long time active and vocal member of NYS Motor Truck Association.

Herman married Laura E. Scoville on May 11, 1957 in Camden. Laura passed away on August 12, 1996, after 39 years of marriage. Herman is survived by three sons, Randy and Bernadette Schinn, Roy Schinn, Rex Schinn and Karen Kroll; two granddaughters, Diana and Jarett Carpenter and Kaylee Schinn; brother-in-law Roy and Sharon Scoville; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Herman was predeceased by his parents, sister Erika Parmi, his wife Laura, and son Ronald H. Schinn.
