Herkimer to host 2nd annual Mohawk Valley Brownfields Developer Summit
HERKIMER — The second annual Mohawk Valley Brownfields Developer Summit will be a continuation of the collaborative efforts between economic development agencies across the six counties of the Mohawk Valley and the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District (MVEDD), according to an announcement by summit organizers.
The summit will be held April 25–26 at Herkimer College.
The event will provide developers a dynamic in-person opportunity to network, explore and invest in the Mohawk Valley’s Brownfield rebirth, organizers said.
According to Stephen Smith, executive director of MVEDD, “The summit will provide an opportunity to connect brownfield developers with local economic leaders who have sites ready for remediation to push economic growth in the region.”
There are unique economic development opportunities within the region, and the area has been awarded Downtown Revitalization Initiatives (DRI) and Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) for Herkimer, Amsterdam, Gloversville, Little Falls, Rome and Utica, along with a Restore NY grant to Ilion.
Speakers will spotlight why investing in the Mohawk Valley has never looked brighter. Seasoned experts from the public and private sectors will discuss the Valley’s needs, redevelopment opportunities, available financial incentives and why businesses are investing in the valley. Sites that are prioritized for redevelopment will be showcased during the summit.
