Herkimer National Honor Societies, Student Council lead holiday project to benefit students

HERKIMER — Herkimer Jr. and Sr. High School’s Student Council, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society are once again hard at work on their annual holiday project.

What started five years ago as a small way to bring some holiday cheer to the students has blossomed into a project that served more than 200 students last year. Students are “nominated” by peers or staff to receive a wrapped package filled with fun and useful items.

Community support is a big reason for the success of the project.

Club members and their families, staff and local businesses have been very generous in the past, and organizers would love their support once more.

Holiday project organizers are looking to collect cash donations, wrapping paper, tissue paper to line boxes, snacks (such as multi-packs of chips, crackers, cookies and drinks), Capri Suns, Gatorade, hot cocoa packets, easy meals (such as macaroni and cheese and ramen), hygiene items (gender specific or gender neutral), fun items (such as playing cards, stress balls and candy) and winter accessories (such as gloves, hats and socks).

Any questions can be directed to Student Council advisors Laura Scalise and Brooke Jones, National Honor Society advisor Caroline Lampert or Junior Honor Society advisor Susan Hayes-Manning.
