Helen K. (Kisielewicz) Brockway


Helen K. Brockway, 87, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Rome on December 15, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenta Bardziul Kisielewicz. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing. On January 14, 1950, she married Stuart Brockway. He passed away January 10, 1999. 

Helen was a building supervisor for the Rome Developmental Center and she retired in 1991 after 34 years. 

She was a parishioner at Transfiguration Church and lifetime member of the Rome Polish Home.

Helen is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, M. Diane and Joseph Militello of Canandaigua and Joan and Brian Gafner of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Brockway of Rome; six grandchildren, Gregory Brockway, Jr., Kimberly Brockway, Pamela Rockcastle, Joseph Militello, Patrick Brockway and Kristine Brockway; five great-grandchildren, Hope, Claire, Gianna, Alena and Kendrick; and several cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gregory Brockway; two sisters, Lena Connors and Stella Sturbin; a and brother, Joseph Karczewski.

Helen’s family would like to thank the wonderful Drs., Nurses and staff at Betsy Ross for their great care and compassion. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to Transfiguration Church and the Rome Polish Home.
