HCCC Support Center receives tutor certification

Posted

HERKIMER — Herkimer College’s Academic Support Center has been awarded certification as a Level I and Level II certified tutor training program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association.

For more than 30 years, the College Reading and Learning Association has been a leader in learning assistance, reading, and academic support programs with almost 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide, according to the announcement.

Herkimer College’s ASC Director Marjorie Moore said the college has worked hard to develop a tutor training program that meets CRLA’s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process.

“Achieving certification means that ASC has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct services, and evaluation as an integral part of our overall tutoring program,” says Moore.

“Special thanks go to the two lead tutors of our program, Josh Louis and Jeremy Pietruch, who designed the tutor training modules, take charge of conducting our training program every semester, and continue to refine it as we strive to meet new challenges in serving students in the post-COVID era,” Moore adds. “Louis also contributed his writing skills to the recertification application, a big job and an area in which he truly went the extra mile for Herkimer.”
