Harold “Ike” McBain of Little River, SC passed away on April 8, 2019 at the age of 94. He was born in McConnellsville, NY in 1924. He graduated from Camden High and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ike was a Transit Trucking Supervisor for Rome Cable, retiring in 1986 after 38 years.
Ike was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Hill McBain and his son, Timothy McBain, and survived by Timothy’s wife, Susan McBain. Also preceded by his siblings, Judith Emper, Horace “Bud” McBain, Mae McBain, Marge Oleynick, and Charles McBain; and survived by his sister Marilynn, who resides in Texas.
Ike is survived by his daughter Cynthia Bunal, her husband James Bunal, and their son, J. Casey Bunal; Cynthia’s son, Thomas Bonavita, his wife Jessica Bonavita, and their three children, Charlee, Thomas IV, and Juliet. Ike is also survived by his youngest daughter, Cheryl McBain and her wife, Deanna Ferris, who reside in Arnold, California;
and by his close and longtime friend, Keitha Webb.
Ike enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a lifetime love of baseball, playing the game for many years. He became a well respected umpire, covering games from little league to college ball. He was an avid golfer and was a member at McConnellsville Country Club. He was a natural at the sport, playing well into his 90s with his daughters.
He enjoyed the love of family, and was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ike was generous with his time and energy serving the community by being involved with Democrat club, the Elks, Traffic club, and Civil Defense.
Ike was kind hearted and was always ready to help others. He had a gentle spirit, and was quick witted. He knew many poems and jokes by heart, reciting new ones till the day he died. They will be repeated and remembered by those who were close to him.
