Hand-Built Ceramic Holiday Mug workshop Nov. 30 at View

Posted

OLD FORGE — Pottery Manager Elise Incze at View, the Center for Arts and Culture in Old Forge, 3273 Route 28, will teach a class on how to create one-of-a-kind, hand-built holiday ceramic mugs from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The workshop is for creative individuals to make four personalized holiday mugs for themselves or to give as a gift. No previous pottery experience is needed.

Participants will learn how to transform a slab of clay into three-dimensional functional pottery by darting clay. Darting is the technique of cutting away clay with a knife to taper in the form and alter it, like darting in sewing. Instructor Incze will demonstrate how to use this hand building technique to join these sections of clay together, apply textures, decorative elements and add handles.

Once dried and bisque fired, Incze will glaze all mugs to each student’s choice of color. Students can also schedule a time with Incze to glaze any creations if available.

Ceramic mugs will be available for pick-up or can be shipped after glaze firing — approximately 2-3 weeks after the initial workshop. Shipping cost not included in the workshop price.

The cost for the workshop is $65, $55 for View members. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited to 10. To register, go to ViewArts.org/workshops/pottery. The registration deadline is Nov. 28.
