Hamilton College's Sichol tied for 79th in NCAA Division III golf tourney
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — Hamilton College freshman Peyton Sichol carded a 9-over par 82 in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campeon Golf Course on Wednesday.
Sichol is currently in a three-way tie for 79th place out of 151 golfers at 24-over 170. About two dozen players didn't finish their second round due to darkness because there was a two-hour delay for lightning in the area during the afternoon. Sichol was supposed to start her third round on the 10th hole at 1:50 p.m., but the first tee times on Thursday will likely be delayed by about an hour.
Sichol teed off on No. 10 at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and recorded seven pars on the back nine for a 39. She was 1-over for the day after a birdie at the 163-yard, par-3 second hole (her 11th hole of the round), and still was just 2-over par through her first 13 holes. Sichol proceeded to make double bogey on Nos. 5 and 6 and then bogeyed the last three holes for a 43 on the front nine.
Sichol's opening round 88 was her highest this season. She came into the championship averaging 77.78 for 18 holes. Sichol is the 27th-ranked individual in Division III.
