Hamilton College's Bernstein and Sattinger are baseball all-NESCAC selections
Hamilton College senior Phil Bernstein and junior Jackson Sattinger have been selected for the 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference Baseball All-Conference Team.
Bernstein was voted to the first team after he was on the second team in 2021 and 2022. The outfielder is one of only two players on the team with three all-NESCAC honors. Sattinger was the utility player on the second team as he was honored for the first time. A total of 27 athletes are on the all-conference team.
Bernstein is fourth in the NESCAC with a .390 batting average, second with a .493 on-base percentage, seventh with 48 hits, fifth with 22 stolen bases, tied for sixth with 37 runs scored and tied for eighth with 22 walks. He added three doubles, a triple, two homers and 22 runs batted in. He started all 33 games and didn't commit an error in 51 chances in the outfield. Bernstein holds team single-season records for total bases and runs scored, and is the only Hamilton baseball player that has scored 100 career runs. Bernstein is sixth on the team's all-time list in career hits, is second in career stolen bases, batting average, and on-base percentage, and is fifth in career slugging percentage.
Sattinger is 10th in the NESCAC with an OPS of 1.033, 11th with a .467 on-base percentage, 13th with a .566 slugging percentage, tied for eighth with 12 doubles and three triples and seventh with 23 walks. He started all 33 games, hit .340 with with 36 hits, scored 30 runs and drove in 24, and homered twice. On the mound he posted a 3-3 record with a save and a 2.70 ERA in 20 innings. He walked 10 and fanned 10 in seven appearances, including four starts.
The duo helped lead the Continentals to an 18-15 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the NESCAC West Division. Hamilton tied for third place in the division and played in a NESCAC championship quarterfinal series for the second straight year. The Continentals lead the conference with a .315 batting average and are third in team ERA at 4.81.
