Hamilton College visits Colby for NESCAC baseball championship quarterfinal series
The Hamilton College Continentals travel to Colby College in Waterville, Maine, for a 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) baseball championship quarterfinal series at Coombs Field on Saturday and — if necessary — Sunday.
The teams will play twice on Saturday with the first game starting at noon. If the teams split those two games, a deciding third game will be played on Sunday at 11 a.m. to determine who advances to the four-team NESCAC championship at Colby the following weekend.
Hamilton (18-13 overall) tied for third place in the NESCAC West Division standings with a 6-6 record and is the West's third seed for the championship. The Continentals made their first appearance in this event last year and nearly won the whole thing. After defeating Trinity College in three games at home in the quarterfinals, Hamilton made it to the championship final and was one strike away from winning the title before Middlebury College rallied. The Continentals opened this season with six straight losses in Florida but they are 18-7 since then.
Colby (22-10) finishes second in the NESCAC East Division standings with a 7-5 record and is the East's second seed for the championship. The Mules also made their first appearance in this event in 2022 and swept Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals. Colby went 1-2 in the four-team, double-elimination championship where they were eventually knocked out by Hamilton in the losers' bracket final.
