A gun buy-back community event will be held in Rome on Wednesday, Sept. 29, hosted by the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
The event will be held at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church at 1807 Bedford St. from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 29. People will receive $250 for assault weapons, $150 for handguns, $75 for rifles and shotguns and $25 for non-working and antique firearms, officials said.
All payments will be made via prepaid gift cards at the site, after the guns are turned over. Guns must be unloaded when they are dropped off. If bringing a firearm in your vehicle, officials said it must be placed in the trunk. All guns should be in a box or bag when dropped off.
Officials said this is an amnesty program and no questions will be asked of the people dropping off the guns. Identification is not required.
The event is not open to licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers.
