ROME — Craobh Dugan O’Looney, the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, will hold a traditional Irish music session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at Copper City Brewery, 1111 Oneida St.

The session is free and open to the public and welcomes musicians who are interested in performing traditional Irish music and play instruments such as fiddle, whistle, flute, accordion, mandolin and tenor banjo. Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music.

Sessions have a long history in traditional Irish music, going back more than 75 years. They are usually held in public houses — or pubs — and have a format that includes musicians playing sets of standard Irish tunes in the traditional manner.

Singers are usually present as well and songs are generally presented acapella.

Craobh Dugan O’Looney was established in 1978 to promote Irish music, dance and language in the Utica-Rome area.

New members are always welcome to join the group and do not have to be musicians to become a members.

For more information, visit the group’s website at www.uticairish.org.
