Griffo starts online petition for new bail reform laws


State Senator Joseph A. Griffo and two senate colleagues have started online petitions for citizens to sign and join in the call to fix the new bail reform laws.

Griffo, R-47, Rome, Betty Little, R-45, Glens Falls, and Patty Ritchie, R-48, Watertown, have launched petitions on their individual senate webpages. The reforms prohibit cash bail being set for people charged with misdemeanors and non-violent felonies. Griffo and his associates claim the new reforms and releasing dangerous individuals back into the community.

The petitions call for restoring bail to cases of violent crimes, sex offenders, serial criminals and those with a record of failing to return for court dates; to allow judges to use their discretion to set bail; and to protect witnesses and police officers from retaliation by shielding their personal information in case files, such as names and home addresses.
