NEW HARTFORD — Grey Fox Mercantile, 70 Genesee St., will open its newest solo exhibition featuring Heather Swenson on Friday, July 5.
The exhibition will be on display from July 5-25 and will feature a collection of screen prints and small sculptures. Swenson will be a special guest for this month’s craft night on Thursday, July 25 from 5-7 p.m. Craft night is free.
For craft night anyone is welcome to bring a project to work on in Grey Fox’s workshop space. It’s an opportunity to share work and meet new makers.
Swenson is an artist working and living in Rochester. She is currently focusing on silkscreen and collage while exploring new uses of these mediums through building three-dimensional structures.
She has shown work in multiple exhibitions around New York and has had several solo and group shows in Rochester.
Swenson teaches a yearly silkscreen workshop through the Print Club of Rochester and is the vice-president of the organization.
She received her bachelor’s of fine arts in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts with a concentration in painting and printmaking from Purchase College of Art and Design in 2012.
“Within a multidisciplinary practice of making screenprints, sculptures, and installations I create work that is both derived from experience and invention,” Swenson said.
“I am extremely captivated by the simple act of looking and gather observations from my daily life. By combining these observations with imagined structures and images I aim to make work that references real spaces while still feeling unfamiliar.”
Grey Fox Mercantile hours are Wednesday through Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
