Greta (Concetta) Myers


Greta (Concetta) Myers, born September 28, 1928 in Rome, NY to the late Pauline and Luciano Rizio passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019 in Syracuse. On June 19, 1948 she was united in marriage to the late Clifford Myers, a union of 54 years.

Greta graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1946 and went on to worked at the downtown Rome 5 & 10 store before starting a career at Griffiss Air Force Base with the Department of Defense in 1950. She excelled early in her work and received Superior Performance Awards on yearly basis and promotions to higher grades until her retirement in 1987. During her employment she was President of the GALS (Government Associated Ladies Sorority) for many years and during that period of time became their travel planner and trip escort.

After retiring she became a member of the South Rome Senior Citizens Organization and became their trip planner and escort. The trips planned, as she had for the GALS, were always interesting and entertaining, including multi-day and one day trips to areas of New York State, Canada, Washington, DC, North Carolina, Las Vegas, Atlantic City and to many more to list. It was not uncommon to fill two buses for many of the trips she planned. She also escorted trips for several local bus companies when needed.

Greta is survived by her daughters, Paula Chudyk of North Syracuse and Jacqueline (Gordon) Hookway of Sherrill; two grandchildren, Andrew (Stephany) Bugenis of Queensbury and Jennifer Hookway of Liverpool; a brother, Richard (Luisa) Rizio of Washington, DC; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Jim, Fred, John and Luciano Rizio Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Association of CNY, 4915 1/2 Taft Rd.., Liverpool, NY 13088.
