Great Swamp to host Earth Day event Saturday

CANASTOTA — Celebrate the 51st Earth Day at the Great Swamp Conservancy of Canastota on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors can receive a seed planting, play nature games, enjoy sustainable crafts, build a bluebird box or a repurposed tote bag, among other activities. People can also put their boots on and take a guided trail walk with ADK volunteer Mary Coffin at 11:15 a.m. from the schoolhouse/flag poles.

GSC officials said there will be a sing-along and puppet show with guitarist Ann Wieder at 11:30 a.m. A wildlife rehabilitator from Out of the Cage will educate with a variety of animals from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. in the museum.

There will also be a Mother’s Day raffle basket loaded with many gift certificates, and other gifts for moms. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated. Masks must be worn and sanitizer will be available and social distancing will be implemented.
