Grant provides children’s center upgrade at Black River Canal Museum

BOONVILLE — The Boonville Black River Canal Museum has received a grant from Stewart’s 2021-22 Holiday Match Program. The grant will provide for an upgrade of the water distribution system to the mini-canal in the children’s activity center of the Museum.

Officials said this badly needed upgrade will assure the proper controls to fill, store, and distribute the water into the children’s mini-canal, plus prevent any kind of an overflow during power outages.

Through interactive play, children can guide a boat through a series of canal locks demonstrating how a lock works, and why the locks were necessary on the Black River Canal. Children of all ages flock to this exciting display when they and their families visit the Museum.

“The BBRCM wishes to thank Stewart’s Shops for making this upgrade possible, and for their ongoing support of all children through their annual Holiday Match Grant Program. The BBRCM is looking forward to many visitors of all ages this 2022 season,” museum officials noted.

Attendees can enjoy the hands-on activity center along with all of the other photos, displays and archives throughout the museum.

The museum is located on the corner of Main St. and Route 12. Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week from July 1 to Labor Day.
