Gourmet coffee, tea shop opens in Rome Arts District

ROME — Superofficial, a new gourmet coffee and tea cafe sharing space with The Copper Easel, will celebrate its grand opening at 216 W. Dominick Street this Friday.

Extensive renovations have transformed the art gallery into a space perfect for enjoying coffee, art, and friendly company all in downtown Rome’s booming Arts District. The coffee shop will open its doors at 7 a.m.

Over the course of the last two years, Superofficial has grown from a one-mobile cart operation to a full cafe experience in Rome’s Arts District. Owners Jonathon and Caitlin Matwijec-Walda said they are excited to offer a vibrant, big-city cafe culture to their fellow Romans, and are equally excited to be sharing space with their friend and collaborator, Adam Chrisman, owner of The Copper Easel.

After partnering with a variety of local businesses for pop-up cart events, Jon and Caitlin said they’re glad to finally have a brick-and-mortar location for their customers to enjoy.

Superofficial has partnered with Sey, a specialty coffee roaster out of Brooklyn, and Hugo Tea, a Kansas City, Mo. tea company, to provide a variety of coffee and tea drinks to suit any taste. These companies were chosen specifically for their dedication to transparency, fair trade ethics, and their high standard of quality in all that they do, said Jon Matwijec-Walda.

The menu includes a full roster of specialty coffee drinks, including hot and iced drinks like coffee, cappuccinos, lattes, cortados, chai and matcha lattes, and a wide range of imported tea. Also on offer are homemade syrups, including vanilla, caramel, and mocha, alongside seasonal or premium syrup options. Alternative milks will include oat, almond, and soy.

Regular hours of operation are: Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Superofficial will be closed on Sunday and Monday.
