Girls basketball teams set for cancer benefit tourney at Herkimer College

HERKIMER — The Utica Board of Officials for Women’s Basketball is set for the third Cancer Challenge featuring girls basketball teams from around the Mohawk Valley.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 29 at Herkimer County Community College. Officials who have been assigned to work these games have all agreed to volunteer their services, according to a news release.

The schedule is:

11 a.m.: Herkimer vs. Little Falls

1 p.m.: Mount Markham vs. Cooperstown

3 p.m.: New Hartford vs. Notre Dame

5 p.m.: Westmoreland vs. Clinton

Organizations also noted:

• Pink T-shirts will be supplied to all players and coaches of each team;

• Pink Wilson basketballs will be provided to each participating team;

• Cancer survivors will be honored and have a moment of silence for those that have been lost to this disease prior to each game;

• There will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing at halftime of the last game.
According to a news release, all proceeds will go the fight against cancer in local communities.
