NEW HARTFORD — Gilroy Kernan & Gilroy is recognizing members of the sixth graduating class of the firm’s Strategic Risk Management Fundamentals course.

Participants included:
- Clifford Byrne, Mountain Lake Academy;
- Alec Johnson, Waterdown Daily Times;
- Caitlin Matwijec-Walda, Total Solutions I.T. Inc.;
- Pamela de Oliveira, NY Label and Box Corp;
- Sarah Sarkar, Flower City Group; and
- Dave Spears, CraneTech, Inc.
Through this eight-part course, participants gained access to industry experts, leading-edge tools, and a network of industry resources, according to program officials. The course concluded with a capstone project centered on each organization’s unique goals.
Course topics included: Culture of Safety; Connecting Risk Management to Organizational Goals; Hazard, Speculative, and Operational Risk; Workers Compensation; Employee Engagement; Workplace Violence; Disaster Planning; Risk Transfer; and Root Cause Analysis among other topics.
“It is an honor to work directly with some of the best businesses in our community and across the country on topics that impact every individual within their organization. And the impact is measurable,” said Pete Miller, leader of Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy’s Risk Management department. “On average, the Workers’ Compensation Mod for participating organizations has decreased by 19 points in the years following completion of this course,” he added.
