AVA, NY — George Ernest Washburn, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by family. George was born July 10, 1949, in Utica, NY to Ernest J. Washburn and Dorothy C. (Bacon) Washburn. He graduated from Oswego High School in 1967, and from SUNY Morrisville in 1969 with a degree in Computer Science.

George was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and competitive shooting competitions. He loved dogs, and owned many of them over the years, his favorite being Labrador Retrievers. He had a great sense of humor and a booming laugh, which was instantly recognizable to all who knew him. George spent many happy summers at his camp on Chaumont Bay, fishing, spending time with his family and dogs, boating, and soaking in the beauty of sunsets over the water.

George will be greatly missed by his wife, Kyle Eileen (Tripp) Washburn of Ava, NY; his sister, Cheryl (Washburn) Steele of Marshall, NC; his daughter, Diana Oakley and her husband Daniel of Cherry Valley, NY and their children Dorothy and Gabriel; his daughter, Zara Washburn of Oneonta, NY, and her children Bethany, Tyrese, Devonte, Aiyesha, and Jahari; his great-grandchildren, Atticus, Beckett, and Alice; and numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.

Calling hours for George will be May 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wolanin Funeral Home in New York Mills, NY, with a service to follow at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Westernville, NY Fire Dept, which assisted George many times, or to your local animal shelter or rescue.
