Garic, Robinson among top finishers at Grandma’s Marathon
Utica’s Hermin Garic and Westmoreland’s Jason Robinson were among the top-15 finishers at Grandma’s Marathon in northern Minnesota.
Garic finished in 1 hour, 24 minutes and 18 seconds as one of 28 participants in the men’s wheelchair division. That time helped the 32-year-old Garic finish fourth in the division of the 26.2-mile race that starts in Two Harbors and ends in Duluth, Minnesota.
Garic, who won the Boilermaker Road Race last October, said in a Facebook post he achieved his goal of turning in a result below the 90-minute mark for a marathon. He also said he smashed his previous personal record by six minutes.
Aaron Pike, who has turned in top-5 results in 2019, 2018 and 2017 at the Utica Boilermaker, took first at Grandma’s in 1:20.02. Jonboy Smith was second in 1:20.05 and Rafael Botello was third in 1:24.03.
Robinson, the 19-year-old who graduated from Westmoreland and attends the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, finished in 1:29:01, which was 11th in the wheelchair division.
Robinson said in an Instagram post it was a 15-minute personal record for him.
