Garage destroyed by flames in Verona

VERONA — A garage was destroyed by fire on County Highway 50 in Verona Thursday night, according to the New London Fire Department.

Fire Chief Gene Carey said the alarm was raised at 10:27 p.m. Thursday for a single-stall garage on fire at 6991 County Highway 50. Carey said the garage was “fully involved” on arrival and volunteers from six departments launched their attack.

“The fire did take the garage right to the ground,” Carey stated.

The unattached garage was about 10-feet from the residence, the chief said, and the heat and flames were intense enough to damage the siding of the home.

“It did do some damage to the outside of the house; nothing major to the house,” Carey stated. “The house is livable.”

Carey said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He said there was a snowmobile, some welding equipment and other items in the garage, which were lost in the fire.

No one was hurt, he added.

The New London, Verona, Sylvan Beach, Durhamville, Vienna and Taberg fire departments responded.
