On Friday, April 5th, I witnessed something incredible. On the eve of Gansevoort School’s annual clothing drive, staff and other volunteers gathered to sort out hundreds of items of clothing, toys, and books. All of them volunteers dedicating hours to benefiting our community out of the goodness of their hearts.
What’s even more incredible is the fact that most, not some, of the educators that were there volunteering are more than likely going to be told that they will be losing their jobs, no, their passion, due to budget cuts caused by a lack of foundation aid from New York State.
Even with an incredible amount of uncertainty and stress on their shoulders, these amazing people were able to come together for a greater good. They love their students, and the community they live in.
I’m begging anyone who reads this to please contact your legislators both locally and in Albany and tell them our school district NEEDS these people. Our children’s future depends on them.
