Fugitive facing multiple rape charges found in local hotel
ROME — A Columbia County man wanted for skipping court on multiple rape charges was taken into custody in Rome on Monday, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Authorities said Jamel Brandow, 40, of Hudson, was charged in 2019 with four counts of first-degree rape involving a child under the age of 11. Authorities said Brandow was also charged in a separate case in Columbia County with one count of third-degree robbery. Columbia County is located southeast of Albany.
Brandow fled the Columbia County area and failed to appear at his scheduled court dates, authorities said. The Hudson Police Department requested assistance in locating him from the U.S. Marshals' Regional Fugitive Task Force, and it was learned that he was hiding out at a hotel in Rome.
Task Force members surveilled the hotel on Monday, found Brandow and took him into custody, authorities stated. He is expected to be returned to Columbia County to face his ongoing charges.
