Freshmen lead Raiders to hockey victory over Niagara

HAMILTON – The Colgate men’s hockey team earned a 2-0 win against Niagara on Saturday behind a 17-save shutout by Andrew Farrier and fellow freshman Jeff Stewart’s game-winner.

Farrier earned his first career shutout and Stewart recorded his first career goal.

Stewart scored off a rebound in the second period, and the Raiders added a power-play goal by Bobby McMann in the third period. McMann has a three-game scoring streak.

With 4:22 remaining, Niagara pulled its goaltender hoping to convert with a six-on-four advantage, but Colgate’s defense withstood the challenge.

Colgate improves to 4-9-2 and holds a 1-3-2 mark in ECAC hockey action.

The Raiders are off until Saturday, Dec. 29 when they face Quinnipiac in a non-conference game at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.
