Free Women’s Health Expo takes place on Saturday
UTICA — A free Women’s Health Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Parkway Recreation Center, 220 Memorial Parkway. Parking will be at the Oneida Street side entrance.
“This is a great opportunity for women to learn about the importance of self-care and women’s health care,” according to the announcement by event organizers.
Sponsors include the Mohawk Valley Health System, the Rome NAACP, the AKA Sorority, and the city of Utica. Onsite vendors will include the American Heart Association, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Rome Health, Mosaic Health, Oneida County Health Department, 50 Forward and the Alzheimer’s Association.
There will be lunch, blood pressure screenings, swag bags and door prizes, the announcement said, adding that attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably to enjoy a Yoga and Zumba class!
Topics and activities include:
- Dr. Shanelle Benson Reid: Yoga practice and mindful meditation;
- Dr. Cynthia Jones: Heart disease and sickle cell anemia;
- Dr. Dumisa Adams: General women’s health issues;
- Ana Solano: Pre-natal and post-partum care;
- Dr. Keena Whittingham and Dr. Oluwaseun Odutola: Dental care; and
- Sister Teoka Muhammad: Zumba.
Women are invited to come as an individual or part of an organization. The organization with the highest attendance will receive a $50 donation, the announcement said.
