ONEIDA — The Family & Children’s Counseling Services clinic in Oneida will be holding a free Narcan training event on Wednesday, including free Narcan kit distribution.

The event will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the clinic at 201 Cedar St. Attendees are invited to drop in at any time during that period. Officials said the training takes less than 10 minutes.

Naloxone, more commonly known by the brand name Narcan, is a drug that halts and reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

Wednesday’s event is being held in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. While at the event, attendees will also be able to create a luminary to honor loved ones lost to drug overdoses. The luminaries will then be displayed in the Oneida Park..

The event is sponsored by the Family & Children’s Counseling Services and BRiDGES, the Madison County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.
