ROME — B Sharp Musical Club of Utica presents “The Art of Song,” a performance featuring art songs and more, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at The First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St.
B Sharp members on the program include vocalist Ying Wu; vocalist and pianist John Krause; and Colleen O’Neil playing clarinet. They will be performing alongside vocalist Rebecca Matte and pianist Greg Unangst.
The concert highlights the versatility and variety of art songs in the literature. Some featured selections include Schubert’s “Shepherd on the Rock,” “Me voglio fa na casa” and “Amore e Morte” by Donizetti, selected movements from “Six German Songs” by Ludwig Spohr, “Banalities” by Francis Poulenc, “Three Browning Songs” by Amy Beach, Three Chinese Songs (“That is Me,” “The Phoenix Seeks His Mate” and “Praise of Orchid”) and music of Gabriel Faure, plus a few other surprise additions.
Admission to the concert is free. The program is presented in support of the B Sharp Scholarships, awarded annually by audition to talented high school musicians. For those who wish to do so, donations to the scholarship fund may be made at the door, or by contacting B Sharp President, Tina Toglia, at TToglia@gmail.com.
