FOURTH LAKE — Two adults and two children were hospitalized, several in critical condition, after two boats collided on Fourth Lake in Herkimer County Saturday night, according to law enforcement officials.

State police said Carter W. Lawrence, 22, of Old Forge, was piloting a boat on the lake while intoxicated at about 8:11 p.m. Troopers said Lawrence’s boat collided with another vessel, which had three adults and two 6-year-old children on board.

One of the adult men and both children were air-lifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse, authorities said. They were last listed in critical condition. Another adult male was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford with serious injuries, troopers stated.

Lawrence was taken into custody on one count each of boating while intoxicated and first-degree vehicular assault, troopers said. He was arraigned in court and was sent to Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court.

The investigation is continuing.
