Four champs crowned in 16th annual Shamrock Shootout


The Rome Lady Rebels hosted the 16th annual Shamrock Shootout at Rome Free Academy over the weekend, with champions crowned in four divisions.  

• In the 11th-grade division, Mohawk Valley Elite went 3-1, including a final 56-56 victory on Sunday over the Broome County Bolts.  Rome Select went 2-2 in division.

• In the 10th-grade division, the Lady Sizzlers of Newark Valley went 4-0 and clinched the division with a 57-44 win over the Utica Lady Knicks. Their other wins came against Mount Markham, Seneca Falls and Utica Lady Knicks.

• In the grades 9-10 division, the Utica Lady Knicks went 3-1 and defeated the Rome Lady Rebels in the final, 42-26. The Rebels finished at 2-2.  Other wins for the Knicks were over a pair of teams from the Catskills.

• In the seventh-grade division, a team from the Catskills went 4-0, with wins over the Rome Lady Rebels, Utica Lady Knicks and twice over New Hartford Lady Spartans. The champs defeated New Hartford 39-24 victory in the final. The Rome Lady Rebels went 2-2 in the division.

Sixteen teams were entered in the tournament, and the winning teams received gifts.
