Committee meetings have started for the planning of Old Forestport Days, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27. Confirmed to date – auction, raffles, town-wide garage sales, axe-throwing, Firemen’s Famous chicken barbeque, the annual water ball tournament, the Sheriff’s command vehicle and drone demonstration, All About Bees demonstration, Kidz Zone, classic car cruise-in (coordinated by the Snook family), the first Clare Rieben Memorial Cooking Contest (coordinated by Ann Mason), the music of Spoony and the Tone chasers at Scooters, The Lucas Lawrence Memorial Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, and town sponsored fireworks at quarter past dark over Forestport Pond.
A very generous donation of three six-count Omaha Steak packages valued at $449 will be raffled off to benefit the Forestport Fire Department. Check it out at OMAHABEEFANDSEAFOOD.COM. Posters from WILCOR and new signs are on their way. The next committee meeting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at the Forestport Fire Department. We also received a donation to fund the new signage.
Congratulations to Abigail Scouten for completing two years of cosmetology in one year! Hard work pays off.
The Black River Outdoor Education Program ended their student kayaking program on Friday, June 17 at Forestport Pond with a busload of kids from Canastota.
The Otter Lake Fire Department is having their 38th annual Truck Raffle, offering up a 2022 truck for $2 a ticket. The winning ticket will be drawn on Sept. 4 at their annual Steak Bake.
The Woodgate Volunteer Fire Department has their annual UTV raffle to win a Polaris Ranger 570. Tickets are $5, and will be drawn Oct. 1 at their annual Spaghetti Dinner.

I enjoyed a great paddling vacation with our Go With the Flow Kayaking Group on our June Saranac area adventure.
Our next fast pitch softball game for the local Forestport Athletics is not scheduled until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 8 at the Dutch Hill field. Our home team plays United Fitness. Members of the team play in the Croghan Tournament. Slow pitch teams will take a break on Saturday, July 2 to observe the Fourth of July holiday.
