The Daily Sentinel often publishes stories about worthy groups that do fine things in the community. We’re glad to do it.
Sometimes though, we get a bonus. We get to publish stories about outstanding individuals who devote time, effort and talent to make our cities and towns a better place to live.
We spotted such a story recently about a person who has committed who knows how many hours to benefit veterans.
Tom Kenealy, working with Henry P. Smith Post, American Legion, has provided American flags for the graves in local cemeteries for Memorial Day, mustered volunteers to decorate Veterans Memorial Park and the surrounding area for Flag Day with over 3,000 flags each year, and provided flags for the Honor America Days concert at Fort Stanwix. Those are just some of the achievements of this Massachusetts native who served four years in the Air Force and was discharged at Griffiss Air Force Base in 1955.
He has held numerous memberships in various groups besides being active with the American Legion.
To thank Kenealy for his service, the Lake Delta Kiwanis Club will honor him for his work on veterans causes at an event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Delta Lake Inn.
If you’d like to salute Tom for everything he has done, tickets can be purchased from club president Fred Jaynes by calling 315-339-4778. Tickets for the buffet dinner are $20.
